LEAGUE and SEASON UPDATE
Governor Raimondo has announced her current plans for youth activities and sports which continue to place roadblocks in the path to the start of our regular season. However, hope remains for play in various formats beginning in July. The Governor has indicated that, subject to change, she does not yet want to authorize competitive games between opposing teams but foresees individual teams practicing in July.
The CYBSL Administration is currently putting a program together that will allow for adherence to such restrictions but allow for a fun, productive and learning experience for all our players. Veteran coaches, managers, and local skills experts will join our current staff of managers and coaches to conduct clinics throughout the summer for our players. Traditional practices will be expanded to include in-team mini baseball games (a traditional favorite with our summer all-star teams). Details will follow as we finalize these ideas.
Your current registration fees will cover the costs for these activities as well as play in our regular season. Special rule modifications from Little League will allow us to retain our regular season teams beyond the normal end date of September 1 so that no one will be “aged out” at any division for the rest of this year. As soon as we are allowed to transition to the traditional competitive season, we will.
Given the built-in social distancing that in inherent in baseball/softball, it is quite likely that baseball will be the only organized youth sport available to our kids for the foreseeable future. So, hang in there with us. Keep your child’s spot and we will continue to adapt as needed to get these kids out there while making better ball players of them, despite the unexpected challenges that this pandemic presents us with.
